2010 - 2011 'The BEAST and other Stories'

The drawings are made on Arches 100% cotton watercolor paper,
56 x 76 cm each, with pencils, graphite, photo collage, acrylic and watercolour.

Dream Story

Twenty seven drawings in pencil and photo collage build a simple story. The main characters are two typical Cypriot street cats who meet in a flat, under the same shelter. The cats try to find ways to communicate and finally they succeed it by creating a dialogue about their dreams.

Dreams brightened their life leading them to a new reality. The story in words was written after the completion of the drawings. In the presentation of the work there might be an audio visual combination to project the story.

The BEAST and other stories.

Hi, my name is Ludwig. I’m a street cat, lost my mum and I have no home.
For days I protected myself between high walls. People living in these high walls are seeking for happiness.

Soon I got very ill and I found myself in the middle of the street.
Running wheels passing by, up and down the street:
‘ Mummy, mummy I won’t survive.’

Just a bit before the end a sun ray warm me up.
Suddenly I felt a soft hand holding me tenderly. There was Madonna of the Cats.
She brought me up in a flat, fed me and took care of me.
A few days passed and I felt much better.

One morning I met Cleopatra, the flat’s house cat, in a meditative moment.
She was in the middle of a sun salutation. Concentrated with her master seemed
wise but rather snob.

Cleopatra loves to sleep many hours and dreams a lot.
Though she doesn’t like me much, from time to time she tells me some of her dream stories:
‘Ludwig, please listen carefully… Stillness and breathing are two basic things for good dreaming.’

‘Otherwise you will have to work out your fears first and then be ready for relaxation.’

‘Sweet dreams with goldfishes,

accidental meetings with dolphins

and trips to Australia are my usual dreams.’

‘There are times of nightmares appearing in my dreams. Usually when I eat a lot or I am a bit disturbed.’
‘Big fishes conspiring to kill me…

and a weird Vet trying to convince me take his poisonous goldfish pills.’

‘But Ludwig, be careful, I will always keep telling you: STOP FEEDING THE BEAST.
It may eat us someday.’

‘And don’t let your little fishy friends ever escape from you. They are really precious.’

One afternoon, while relaxing in her extra double bed,
Cleopatra had her first erotic dreams, but she didn’t tell Ludwig.
At the beginning a beautiful greenish grasshopper whispered her words of love…

Then she had her first kiss with a gold brownish sexy fish…

And the final surprise was the extended crab flirting lover!

‘So Ludwig, back to our stories: Sometimes I travel through my dreams in extraordinary glass spaces…

and surrealistic worlds, where strangers meet in the same womb,

friends fall together

and others look high and above searching for something.’

‘Cleopatra, you know, yesterday I had some similar experiences,’ said Ludwig:
‘I dreamt, I was looking from above down to earth and I saw many people coming together and dancing in a circle. They were in an ecstatic motion.’

‘A moment after, a woman was relaxing in dog’s pose.
People learn quite a lot from animals, don’t you think so Cleo?’

‘You are quite right Ludwig. One thing I would love to learn from humans is handstand. Seems so magical!’

‘Another thing that excites my imagination is our huge potentials.
The other day my neighbor cat came from Italy and she
described to me how she survived from a strong earthquake.’

‘Hey, Lud, before you sleep again listen to one more dream: that of the beautiful bubble dance,
where Mother Earth danced on a bubble and a herd of goldfishes went round and round and round…’

And little Ludwig sank into his own dreams…

‘Now it’s my time’, whispered wise Cleopatra, ‘Let’s eat THE BEAST!’

But finally she didn’t and they all lived happy together.

THE END
